I have just remote desktoped into two different machines, and got some serious madness with visual studio 2005 and resharper 2 and 2.5.

dd worked but
p did a mixture of mad things
chucked it on start of line
navigated to line 1 or end

Ended up having to go into insert mode to get anything done.

Also got some madness with

SQL management studio

yy
p  just put in blank lines

However things worked fine under Word.

I have been retesting SQL Management studio and it seems to be OK now?

Is this a known issue??

Hello Ronald,

I actually use RemoteDesktop very often myself, remoting from my Vista laptop into my XP desktop. I used to use VNC and have now switched to RD for the much better usability and performance.

I am not aware of interactions, and all of the ViEmus work fine for me. Thus, it must be some problem of ViEmu with your specific setup.

By your description, it seems it's mostly related to the clipboard. It's quite likely that there might be a problem with the way ViEmu uses the clipboard and the way RDT handles it to make copy/pasting along the host and guest transparent. We can try to investigate that.

I'm not a power user of RD, but maybe you are. Is there some specific setting related to the clipboard? Looking into that would help.

Is there any difference when the yank is done on the remote computer using ViEmu and the past is done in a local non-ViEmu app? Or in a non-local non-ViEmu app? Using notepad on each could help understand the issue.

ViEmu/Word&Outlook, by default, uses Word's "Copy()" and "Paste()" extensibility methods, to allow formatted copy-pasting. This can be turned off on the settings panel. Copying to and pasting from named registers ("a, "b, etc...) doesn't use the system clipboard at all, although it's raw-text only, but that shouldn't show the symptoms if my hypothesis is right.

Can you investigate a little bit and provide more information? Apart from specific behavior, there are some general things that could help: OS used on both machines, the contents of Visual Studio's Help|About screen (which you can paste back here easily), other system software you might be using, especially if related to the clipboard, etc...

Nothing strange in my remote desktop config as far as I am aware, Word worked fine, but not Visual studio.

AAH!! It may be that I have Synergy running.  In the office I have two machines, and one keyboard and mouse shared, so that I can use 4 screens, and with the one keyboard.  I do have a problem sometimes with remote desktop, where I go off the screen into the other machine, and it is a pain to get the mouse back.  The version of Synergy I have has got a bug where it converts characters to lower case when you try to login to remote desktop on the remote synergy client.  Could be some weirdness their, next time I am home I will test this.

It has not re-occurred again, my suspicion is that synergy had messed up the clipboard.  The machines had been running a long time and copy and paste between machines was no longer working.

I will test if it occurs again.

Glad to hear it's now working fine. It's quite likely it may have been some temporary condition with the clipboard & synergy. I sometimes get a non-functional clipboard myself too (just not so weird).
